The faculty meeting of the Department of Biomedical Engineering was held on Wednesday, 11/12/2024, under the chairmanship of the esteemed Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Hamdan, the scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. Janan Sattar Khashan, the administrative assistant, Dr. Hussein Mutashar, the respected branch heads, and the teaching staff of the department.
The meeting discussed emphasizing the exam instructions and achieving the quality of managing the exam process. The meeting also discussed adherence to the ministerial and university instructions related to the final exams, including the nature of the questions and the mechanism for dealing with cases of cheating when they occur. The responsibilities of the examination committees and the tasks of the officials and observers of the examination halls were clarified to ensure that the appropriate atmosphere is provided for the efficient conduct of the examination process.

Under the auspices of the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Al-Saraji, and under the supervision of the scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. Janan Sattar Khashan,

the department organized a special workshop

entitled “The Role of the Biomedical Engineer in Private Sector Companies and in the Field of Laser Devices”

in Al-Quds Hall by Engineer (Karrar Haider Shinyo). The workshop focused on the most important points that students should know in order to explore the opportunities available in the local labor market, most notably:
- Familiarize themselves with the basic requirements for obtaining job opportunities in the sales and marketing department of aesthetic medical devices.
- Recognize the technical aspects and skills needed to work in the maintenance department of aesthetic medical devices.
- Gain knowledge on how to search for job opportunities in this field, and the skills that a medical engineer must possess to pass job interviews in private sector companies.
An overview of some cosmetic devices, such as lasers used for hair removal and CO2 lasers, was also presented. The role of the medical engineer in the operation of these devices was explained, as well as how to maintain them and ensure that they work efficiently.

Asst.Lect. Dyaa Mohammed, Asst.Lect. Hussein Moussa and Asst.Lect. Asmaa Salim, Senior Engineer,

participated in the 19th International Conference on Modeling and Simulation (MESM) held at Al-Farahidi University on 12/12/2024.

Nineteenth International Conference on Modeling and Simulation MESM held at Al-Farahidi University on 9-12/2024.

The research entitled (PROPOSED CONVOLUTION NEURAL NETWORK MODEL FOR FACE RECOGNITION) was presented, where the research addressed face recognition methods, which is a form of biometric methods that relate to the automatic recognition of faces by computerized systems through facial observation. It is a common feature in biometrics, digital cameras, and social media. Face recognition has received increasing research focus in recent years, a CNN algorithm model has been proposed for face recognition, where a study was conducted on the weaknesses of previous models and concluded that if the number of images used for training is small, large models cannot learn. For this reason, a model was built that balances datasets of large and small sizes. The accuracy of the proposed CNN model in classification was 97%,
The research was discussed by scientific committees and attendees specialized in the proposed research field
The conference was attended by many academics and researchers specialized in the field of modeling and simulation, as the research is considered one of the important researches participating in the conference to advance the service and urban reality in our beloved Iraq.

Under the patronage of the esteemed Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Al-Saraji, and under the supervision of the scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. Janan Sattar Khashan, as part of the activities of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Week, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Technological University organized an awareness lecture

An awareness lecture entitled “Methods of Prevention and Addressing the Phenomenon of Drug Abuse among Students on Campus"

The lecture was delivered by the head of the psychological counseling and educational guidance unit at the department, psychologist Ammar Abbas Kazem

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the lecture aimed to highlight the danger of drugs and their negative impact on human health, especially on the nervous system, and the serious psychological and physical damage they cause. The lecturer discussed in detail the most prominent diseases that may affect drug users, such as lung cancer, loss of appetite, insomnia, fatigue, gastric ulcer inflammation, high blood pressure, and abnormally rapid heartbeat. He also touched on the destructive effect of drugs on the nervous system, leading to poor memory and deteriorating mental abilities.
One of the main focuses of the lecture was to spread awareness among university students about the dangerous biological effects of drugs on the human body in general, and on the nervous system in particular. The importance of educating students about the seriousness of this phenomenon that is alien to Iraqi society was also emphasized, as the user's ultimate fate is often inevitable death, whether as a result of overdose or even due to sudden withdrawal, which can also lead to death.
