The department of foundation
Since the establishment of the Department of Biomedical Engineering in 2015, this specialization has become one of the most important disciplines both locally and globally. The Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of the leading departments that significantly contributes to the development of new technologies that improve healthcare by integrating engineering with medicine. This specialization also reflects our commitment to addressing the needs of society in the fields of medicine and advanced technology.
The department consists of two main branches: Biomechanical Engineering and Medical Devices Engineering. Regarding the department's administrative structure, the Department of Biomedical Engineering is equivalent to the Deanship of an Engineering College in its administrative framework. The head of the department in this field assumes the same responsibilities and powers as the dean of an engineering college in other universities, reflecting the importance of this specialization within the structure of the college. Furthermore, each branch is equivalent to a separate department in other engineering colleges, allowing for specialized focus on each area of biomedical engineering.
In line with modern trends and the country’s needs in health and technology sectors, a Master's program in Biomedical Engineering will be introduced starting from the 2025-2026 academic year. This program aims to provide highly skilled professionals capable of addressing contemporary challenges in the healthcare sector through the development of innovative technological solutions that meet local and international market needs.
In this context, as mentioned by the esteemed President of the University in his speech, the University of Technology is continuously striving to achieve academic excellence and develop scientific leadership across engineering and scientific disciplines. At the College of Biomedical Engineering, we work closely with other university faculties to achieve this vision by developing innovative academic programs, enhancing scientific research, and providing qualified professionals who contribute to offering advanced medical solutions to society.
We look forward to achieving further academic and research accomplishments and wish all our students and faculty members continued success in their academic and professional journeys.
With best wishes for success and progress,
Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhy
Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering
