Master's study in Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering aims to do its best to provide an advanced educational environment that keeps pace with the latest innovations in the field of biomedical engineering, in line with the aspirations of the Technological University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to achieve academic excellence. After His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research approved the introduction of a master's degree in the specialty of “Biomedical Engineering” in the Department of Biomedical Engineering for the academic year 2025-2026, the necessary preparations began in the department to provide all necessary and logistical matters from receiving graduates wishing to apply for a master's degree, in accordance with the ministry's directives regarding the application for graduate studies for the academic year 2025-2026.

In this context, the first meeting of the Graduate Studies Committee at the Department of Biomedical Engineering was held on Monday, March 3, 2025, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, the head of the committee, and the membership of an advanced group of the department's teachers. During the meeting, matters related to graduate studies affairs were discussed and mechanisms for developing the academic program were determined.

Under the patronage of the esteemed President of the Technological University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghabban, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, the Studies and Planning Division organized an

Awareness workshop entitled “Family Dissolution and its Relationship to Substance Abuse”

in coordination with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit.

This workshop comes as part of a series of initiatives aimed at allocating a monthly awareness and training hour, with the aim of raising students' awareness and guidance, and contributing to creating a generation that is aware of the dangers of drugs and able to face difficult social challenges.

The workshop addressed the impact of family disintegration on the spread of drug abuse, as studies have confirmed that a disintegrated family environment is one of the main factors that push youth towards addiction. The workshop also addressed the physical and psychological risks of substance abuse, which include the negative impact on the nervous system, deterioration of mental health, loss of concentration, and behavioral disorders.

In addition, the most prominent societal challenges associated with substance abuse were reviewed, such as high crime rates, poor academic performance, and the negative impact on the national economy. Prevention mechanisms were also discussed.

The workshop was held on Thursday, 27-2-2025, at Al-Quds Hall in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, in the presence of a number of professors and students who participated in the discussion and asked questions about effective ways to curb this dangerous phenomenon.

Receiving a delegation from Warth al-Anbiya University's Department of Biomedical Engineering

Within the framework of enhancing scientific cooperation between Iraqi universities and educational institutions, and within the academic twinning program between private universities, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Technological University, headed by Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, received a delegation from Warith Al-Anbiya University. The delegation consisted of a number of accompanying professors and students of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, where the delegation included the following professors
- Assistant Professor Ahmad Odeh Kazim
- Assistant Professor Hassan Allawi Sabar
- Assistant Lecturer Faris Karim Haliot
- Assistant Professor Aref Samir Sayyad

The delegation was also accompanied by more than fifty students from the second stage of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the evening study program, who came to learn about the experiences and scientific practices at the Technological University.

- Dr. Hussein Jamil, Administrative Assistant
- Dr. Alaa Mohammed Dawood, Head of the Medical Devices Branch
In addition to a number of faculty members in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The visit began with a comprehensive introductory tour of the department's various laboratories, where a detailed explanation was given about the research and scientific activities carried out by the department, in addition to the research capabilities available in the laboratories. The visit touched on the ongoing research projects and the advanced equipment that is used to train students and develop their practical skills. The delegation was also briefed on the latest equipment and tools used in biomedical applications.

During the tour, the delegation expressed their great admiration for the academic and professional developments that the department has witnessed, and the members of the delegation, including professors and students, expressed their deep appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality they received. They praised the level of fruitful academic cooperation between the two universities, stressing the importance of such visits in strengthening scientific ties between Iraqi universities and deepening the understanding of precise engineering disciplines.

In conclusion, both parties emphasized the need to continue these exchange visits in order to enrich the practical side of students and enhance cooperation in the field of scientific research and professional development.

“A workshop entitled: ”Drugs, Cyber Extortion and Terrorism

Under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, President of the Technological University, and under the supervision of Prof. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Studies and Planning Division, in cooperation with the Psychological and Educational Counseling Unit, and in coordination with the National Security Agency, organized a workshop on 

“Drugs, Cyber Extortion, and Terrorism” workshop

The workshop was held on Tuesday, 2/25/2025, at Al-Quds Hall, in the presence of a group of faculty members and students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. A specialized team from the National Security Agency presented comprehensive lectures on the security and social risks caused by drugs, means of preventing cyber extortion, in addition to terrorist threats and ways to address them.

Part of the workshop was also dedicated to discussing cyber fraud issues, highlighting the methods used by fraudsters to hack bank accounts and steal payment card data. The lecturers provided practical advice and guidance on how to secure personal information, avoid fraudulent links, and use double verification techniques to protect financial accounts.

The workshop concluded with a fruitful discussion session, which witnessed wide interaction by the department's instructors, who provided their queries and suggestions on ways to enhance awareness.

Awareness lecture entitled “Combating Violence against Women”

The lecture was delivered by Ms. Mais Hassan Omran delivered the lecture on Tuesday, 25/2/2025 at Al-Quds Hall - Department of Biomedical Engineering, in which she addressed the forms of violence against women, its causes, its negative effects on the individual and society, in addition to the legal means to protect women and enable them to defend their rights.

Awareness lecture entitled “Combating Violence against Women”

The lecture discussed several topics, most notably:
- The concept of violence against women according to international conventions and national legislation.
- Forms of violence (physical, psychological, economic and social) and its prevalence in societies.
- Legal measures available to protect women from violence, and legislation that criminalizes these practices.
- The importance of community awareness and the role of educational institutions in spreading the culture of combating violence and promoting women's rights.

This lecture comes within the framework of the Technological University's efforts to promote awareness of human rights and shed light on important societal issues, believing in the role of education in bringing about positive change and building a more just and equitable society.

Workshop Entitled “Preparing a CV according to the ATS System”

Under the patronage of the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, the Department's Rehabilitation and Employment Division, represented by the Graduate Follow-up Officer, M.M. Atheer Jamhour.

A workshop entitled “Preparing a CV according to the ATS system”

Presented by Engineer Zainab Nehmeh. During the workshop, students were introduced to the mechanisms of writing a professional resume in accordance with the ATS (Applicant Tracking System), which is the system adopted by many local and international companies and institutions in sorting and classifying job applications.

The workshop was well attended by students of the fifth stage, in addition to a number of teachers and affiliates. It also included practical guidance on how to improve the chances of acceptance in jobs by preparing a professional resume that is compatible with the requirements of the labor market.

This workshop comes as part of a series of events organized by the university in accordance with its directives aimed at enhancing students' skills in various fields and preparing them for the labor market.

The attendees expressed their great benefit from the workshop, stressing the importance of such events in developing their professional skills and preparing them to enter the labor market with more confidence.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Technological University honors its former head in recognition of his outstanding efforts

In a gesture of appreciation for years of giving, the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Technological University, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, in the presence of all members of the esteemed Department Council, honored Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Hamdan, the former head of the department, in appreciation of his great efforts and valuable contributions that spanned ten years since the establishment of the department.

This honor comes as an expression of thanks and gratitude for the prominent role played by Dr. Wissam in developing the department and upgrading its academic and administrative level, as he had a clear impact in promoting the scientific and research process of the department and supporting students and faculty members.

The attendees praised his long career, stressing that his distinguished efforts contributed to establishing strong foundations for the department and achieving many scientific and administrative achievements. At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Hamdan was presented with a certificate of thanks and appreciation in recognition of his sincere efforts and his active role in supporting the march of the department and enhancing its status at the university.

Technological University faculty honored for their efforts at the IETAS International Conference

Under the patronage of the President of the Technological University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and instructors Dr. Ali Jalal Ali and Assistant Instructor Atheer Jamhour Sabar were honored for their outstanding efforts during the International Engineering, Technology and Applied Sciences (IETAS) Conference and Exhibition.

This honor came within the framework of the event organized by the Technological University in cooperation with Warith Al-Anbiya University, which was held on November 26-27, 2024, where the conference witnessed a wide participation of researchers and specialists in the fields of engineering and technology.

This honor reflects the university's appreciation of the efforts of its teaching staff in supporting scientific research and promoting academic cooperation, which contributes to the development of the engineering and technological sector at the local and international levels.

Two faculty members participate in a graduation project at the National Industry Exhibition

The Honorable Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi, and Ph.D. Ali Jalal and Asst.Lect. Atheer Jamhour participated in the exhibition to support the national industry, which was held in the corridors of our university on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
This participation comes within the efforts of the university and the department to support scientific research and develop applied projects that contribute to strengthening the national industry.

During the exhibition, the graduation project “Designing and manufacturing a device for the rehabilitation of lower limbs”

was presented to students Asawer Hussein Ramadan, Hussein Tariq Faleh, and Ali Manaf Jumaa

With supervisors Dr. Ali Jalal and Ms. Atheer Jumhum, which aims to help patients who suffer from gait issues or muscle weakness as a result of injuries or surgeries.
The device works to improve patients' mobility through guided exercises that contribute to the rehabilitation of the lower limbs, enhance muscle strength, and restore balance and natural movement.
The exhibition witnessed the visit of His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mr. Khaled Al-Battal, accompanied by the directors of the Ministry's departments, and the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghabban, and his assistants. The delegation inspected the project and praised the efforts exerted in developing innovative solutions to support the health and industrial sectors, stressing the importance of such initiatives in enhancing the integration between academic research and industrial applications.

The Head of department holds a meeting with the representatives of the department's students

On Thursday, 20-2-2025, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hussein Bakhi, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, met with representatives of the academic levels of the two branches: Biomechanics Branch and Medical Devices Branch. The meeting was attended by the heads of the branches: Ph. D. Saad Mahmoud Ali, head of the Biomechanics Branch, and Ph. D. Alaa Mohammed Daoud, head of the Medical Devices Branch, as well as the head of the Educational and Psychological Counseling Committee, Prof. Dr. Sabah Saad, and the head of the Psychological Counseling Unit, Assistant Director Ammar Abbas. The meeting was also attended by the teachers' representative, Dr. Ali Jalal Ali. H.E. addressed the importance of student behavior within the university environment, stressing the need to adhere to values and morals that contribute to creating a positive learning environment. He also emphasized the importance of students' regularity in attending lectures and paying attention to their subjects in order to enhance their academic level and contribute to achieving their scientific goals. The student representatives reviewed the most prominent challenges and issues facing them, in addition to a set of proposals. Prof. Dr. Sadiq Hussein Bakhi listened attentively to all observations and suggestions, stressing the department's firm commitment to providing a distinguished educational environment that supports the academic career of students and contributes to the development of their scientific potential.
This meeting comes within the framework of the department's keenness to enhance the channels of constructive communication with the students and listen to their opinions and suggestions to ensure the development of the educational process in line with their academic aspirations and future needs.
